A look at the online building-level administration certificate

This certificate program is designed for credentialed educators in Arkansas as well as credentialed educators from other states who seek to acquire a Building-Level Administrator License (i.e. principal's license). The program builds on previous degrees through our curriculum-intense courses and is designed to provide an accelerated, affordable route to obtaining an additional licensure.

In this program you will:

  • Prepare to acquire an Arkansas building-level administrator license (i.e. principal’s license)
  • Utilize an opportunity to demonstrate leadership skills and practices integral to school leadership
  • Gain perspectives, skills and processes necessary for managing curriculum
  • Review educational administration with the context of ethical and professional behavior as well as legal aspects of education
  • Focus on school and community relations; aspects of teacher evaluation and supervision; site-based management, planning and resource allocation; and the administrative processes of special education
  • Utilize an internship in an educational leadership setting

Students interested in this certificate program must have two years of educator experience. Review the full admission requirements below.

Admission Requirements:

  • Online application
  • Master’s degree
  • 2 years of educator experience

  • An education-related master's degree from an accredited institution
  • Achieved a minimum cumulative graduate grade point average of 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale)
  • At least two (2) years of P-12 experience as an educator
  • Commitment from an appropriate professional who will function as your mentor during the degree program. View acceptable mentors.
  • Candidates will be required to submit the self-disposition document provided and verification for teacher effectiveness and leadership abilities

This course addresses planning and resource allocation in public schools. Special attention is given to site-based management respon­sibilities of the principal.

A study of the legal aspects of education for the purpose of familiariz­ing school personnel with the legal features of school organization and administration. The course will consider constitutional and statutory provisions, but the major emphasis will be directed to the study of court decisions relating to education.  Dual Listed/Cross Listed: Dual listed as ELAD 6073.

This course presents an overview of educational administra­tion for practitioners within the context of ethical and professional behavior.  Dual Listed/Cross Listed: Dual listed as ELAD 6203.

This course examines the qualities, disposi­tions, and characteristics of effective leaders, along with research and evaluation strategies for school improvement.

This capstone course provides students with practical hands-on clinical experience in a school setting. The course will focus on authentic problems and activities that require students to demonstrate leadership skills, and practices integral to the per­formance of the school administrator at the building level.  Prerequisites: Completion of portfolio.

Combines attributes of supervising teaching with the formal aspects of teacher evaluation via emphasis on adult development, clinical supervision, and evaluation processes and models extant in public schools.
