Post-9/11 GI Bill® Benefits
Receive assistance with tuition and fees, as well as funds for housing, books and supplies. If you served on active duty after Sept. 10, 2001, you might be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33). If you are a member of the reserves who lost education benefits when the Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP) ended in November 2015, you may qualify for restored benefits under the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
Montgomery GI Bill®
The Montgomery GI Bill® offers education benefits for both active duty and selected Reserve members. If you have served at least two years on active duty, the Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty (MGIB-AD Chapter 30) provides up to 36 months of benefits. For members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard Reserve, Army National Guard or Air National Guard, the Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR Chapter 1606) also offers up to 36 months of benefits, provided your service obligation began after specific dates.

Prior military coursework and training documented on your Joint Services Transcript (JST) or Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) transcript may also count toward your degree — see Transfer & Prior-Learning Credit below.
$250 per credit hour — undergraduate and graduate
Tuition & the A-State Military Scholarship
The A-State Military Scholarship reduces tuition and fees to $250 per credit hour (the Military Tuition Assistance payment cap) at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
- Who typically qualifies: active-duty service members using Tuition Assistance; reservists or Guard members using TA or Chapter 1606 MGIB-SR benefits; and spouses of active-duty service members.
- Students must reapply for the scholarship every term. The application deadline lines up with the military’s TA request deadline, seven days before the term starts, so apply early to avoid paying up front.
- The scholarship works alongside, not on top of, other aid; how it combines with your specific VA or TA benefit varies.

Arkansas National Guard members may also qualify for the state’s separate National Guard Tuition Waiver — contact A-State Online’s military representative to see which option is the better fit.

A-State-approved credit for prior learning recognizes your previous accomplishments, reducing your tuition costs and time to graduation.
- Training and coursework documented on your Joint Services Transcript (JST) may be evaluated for credit.
- Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) coursework may also transfer.
- ACE-recommended credit and national testing programs (such as CLEP or DSST) may apply, depending on your program.
