Use Your Military Education Benefits
Advance your career with exclusive benefits toward graduate and undergraduate programs.
- Post 9/11 GI Bill Benefits: Receive assistance with tuition and fees, as well as funds for housing, books and supplies. If you served on active duty after Sept. 10, 2001, you might be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33).
- If you are a member of the Reserves who lost education benefits when the Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP) ended in November 2015, you may qualify for restored benefits under the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
- Montgomery GI Bill: The Montgomery GI Bill® offers education benefits for both active duty and selected Reserve members. If you have served at least two years on active duty, the Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty (MGIB-AD Chapter 30) provides up to 36 months of benefits. For members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard Reserve, Army National Guard or Air National Guard, the Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR Chapter 1606) also offers up to 36 months of benefits, provided your service obligation began after specific dates. Both programs have eligibility requirements that must be met.
- Other benefits accepted by A-State: Chapter 31 Veteran Readiness & Employment and Chapter 35 Survivors’ and Dependents’ Education Assistance.
- Military Scholarship: Our Military Scholarship reduces tuition and fees to $250 per credit hour at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Information about eligibility can be found on the scholarship’s website.

Can I take online classes while in the military?
- Yes, our online programs are flexible so you can pursue your degree while working.

Does the military pay for my online degree program?
- The educational benefits you’ve earned through your military service can be utilized to pursue a college degree online. Options such as military tuition assistance, the Montgomery GI Bill® and Post-9/11 GI Bill® can help cover the costs of your education. Additionally, there are outside scholarships and federal financial aid available to provide further financial support for service members.

Does A-State accept transfer credits?
- Yes. The number of transfer credits is dependent on the program. Please view our programs for more information.

Does A-State grant college credit for my military experience?
- You may be eligible for prior learner assessment based on your previous accomplishments, reducing your tuition costs and time to graduation. Contact A-State Onlines military and veteran representative at 870-972-2920 for more information.

How do I apply for military benefits?
- Active-duty service members should visit their installations education office to get their tuition assistance activated. To apply for military benefits, go to the VAs education application page and follow their instructions.

Can I use other forms of financial aid with my GI Bill?
- Yes, you can. We are obligated to report the net tuition cost to the VA after accounting for any grants, scholarships, discounts and other applicable tuition reductions. Your VA benefits will be applied to the remaining balance under Chapter 33.

Can my spouse take advantage of my military benefits for their degree program?
- Yes, spouses of veterans may qualify for Chapter 35 or Transferred Chapter 33 VA benefits. Spouses of active-duty service members may qualify for A-States Military Scholarship. How much is tuition with A-States Military Scholarship?
- With A-States Military Scholarship, tuition is reduced to only $250 per credit hour for both undergraduate and graduate programs.
