A-State uses the MSE (Master of Science in Education) label for its master’s-level programs; other universities use MEd (Master of Education) for often-equivalent applied, non-licensure-track degrees. The naming is mostly institutional. An Ed.S. (Education Specialist) is a different, higher level entirely: it’s a post-master’s degree that requires you to already hold a master’s to enroll. A-State offers Ed.S. tracks in Educational Leadership (Principalship, Curriculum Director, GT Director, SPED Director) and Reading and Superintendent for educators who’ve completed an MSE and want to advance further, often toward superintendent-level or specialist-director licensure.
