Career Highlights:

Over the course of my career I have been fortunate to receive various awards and recognitions. In 2000, I received a National Recognition from Economics America for a unit I presented to junior high students. In 2005, I received the state Educator of the Year Award by AGATE (Arkansans for Gifted & Talented Education). In 2019, the third edition of my book, “Assessment of Giftedness: Concise and Practical” was published. But my greatest career highlights occur daily when I am privileged to interact and connect with graduate students (i.e., teachers) from all over the continental United States.

What do you want students to learn in your classes?
I wish for my students to be prepared to be facilitators and administrators of gifted, talented and creative education. There are many skills that they will practice through the course-embedded internship activities throughout the coursework. These skills are a vital part of the total learning experience from the program.
What advice would you give to those considering the online MSE in Gifted, Talented, and Creative program?
Stay organized and go through each module methodically. Allot time daily for readings and assignments.
Why did you start teaching?
My parents were teachers and administrators in public education throughout my childhood. I loved going into my mother's classrooms over the years. The children always reacted positively to the creative activities my mother let me facilitate when I would visit her room. It seemed to be a calling.
What is the one book you think everyone should read?
Most recently, my favorite book is “Launch: Using Design Thinking to Boost Creativity and Bring Out the Maker in Every Student” by John Spencer and A.J. Juliani. It opens possibilities for ALL learners to reach their potential.
Tell us something your students may not know about you.
I love adventures and have engaged in bungee jumping, hiking in Europe and exploring caves.
