Why did you start teaching?
We need competent nurses, and I want the next generation of nurses to be as outstanding as the generations that taught me.
What's the best advice that you ever received?
Every job you have in life will teach you something - you just have to pay attention.
What's the best advice that you could give your students?
Just because it is an online class, you have to study twice as hard and be present even in the virtual world!
What is the one book you think everyone should read?
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
What qualities make someone particularly successful in the area in which you teach?
Ask lots of questions if you don't understand!
What do you think is the biggest challenge that people in the profession face today?
A good balance between family, work and studying. Nurses make the best students, but it is because they are so used to multitasking they often don't know the little word "No."
Tell us something your students may not know about you.
I love Arkansas State University. I not only teach here but I am an alumna. I am very loyal to my school. My pet peeve is students wearing other universities' apparel while attending classes here on campus. I love to travel and was fortunate even to go to Molokai in Hawaii to visit the Leper Colony! What an experience for this Public Health Nurse. It was amazing.
