Online Writing Center
The mission of the A-State Online Writing Center is to help students develop the habits that lead to successful written communication.
We will guide you through the writing process and respect your anxieties and struggles. To best help us do this, you must submit your own work only, and please understand that we are not able to assign grades, even informally.
Successful writing comes from developing a network of interrelated skills and strategies, and we look forward to working with you to aid in this process. Here are answers to some common questions about our services.
What is asynchronous tutoring (eTutoring)?
Asynchronous tutoring does not require that the tutor and the student are online at the same time. For an eTutoring appointment, the student will submit their paper to us electronically and we will respond within the prescribed time limit.
What is synchronous tutoring (online appointments)?
Synchronous tutoring takes place when both the tutor and student are simultaneously engaged in an online, real-time chat. For an online appointment, the student will schedule a time to video chat with one of our tutors.
Students should log into the portal at their scheduled time to start their session. Students will receive their feedback during the tutoring session, as well as a follow-up Client Report Form.
How do I schedule an appointment?
- Register for an account with the Online Writing Center
- Log in to the Tutoring Portal
- Select an open time (white box) and select "Yes. Schedule an eTutoring appointment."
- Attach all relevant files to appointment form (paper, rubric, assignment sheet, etc.)
- Schedule appointments at least 24 hours in advance
- Students will receive their feedback at the end of their scheduled appointment hour
How do I access my feedback?
There are two ways.
- Log into the portal and select your appointment. Your paper, with the tutors' notes, will be attached to a Client Report Form.
- Your Client Report Form can be emailed directly to you.
What are the technology requirements?
Online appointments work best with the help of high-speed internet, a computer with video and audio capabilities, and the use of headphones.
